Since moving to Daylesford in 2000 I have been fascinated by both the landscape and history of the Hepburn Shire. I have had this project in mind since then. As an artist I have found a diversity of subject matter in both the town and the landscape. Over the past 20 odd years some of the subjects I have painted have changed, which is inevitable. However this is how they looked at the time of painting. I chose the title “The Golden Shire” for two reasons.
First, every town within the Shire owes its existence to the gold rush in some way, and second, the Autumn season up here is quite spectacular with golden trees in abundance.
